The yarns we use
The softest alpaca yarn comes from a baby’s first shearing, generally from around the neck, where it is fluffiest. It is a soft, fine, durable,
luxurious and a silky natural fibre. Yarn made from alpaca fibres does not felt or pill easily and it can be light or heavy in weight,
depending on how it is spun. While similar to sheep's wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic.
All of the cotton yarns that we use are carefully chosen for their softness and lightness. They are all 100% of the finest cotton
resulting in a beautifully soft, matt yarn which is ideal for babies.
Our Baby Merino is spun from 100% merino wool fibres (19.5 micron) from free-range animals. Not only is it a super soft and itch-
free wool yarn perfectly suited for delicate baby skin, Baby Merino is also superwash treated which makes it machine washable
and ideal for daily use. Baby Merino is constructed by spinning multiple thin strands which gives extra elasticity. Our Baby Merino
yarn is cable spun, which means the stitches are clearly defined, and the result achieved is neat and even.
Made in the EU, this yarn has Oeko-Tex® certification.
This is such a decadent, luxurious yarn, supplied by Yarnundyed. It is 70% baby alpaca, 20% silk and 10% cashmere, making it an
absolute dream both to knit with and to wear.
They use only longer fleece in all their yarn types which means that they are able to produce all their yarns on worsted system. The
fibres are washed, carded and then combed (aligned) before spinning. Worsted spun yarns form longer staple fibres, are more
luxurious and refined, stronger and will feel softer and smoother. The use of longer, combed fibre and the removal of the shorter
fibres during the combing process, significantly reduce pilling in the resultant yarn.
We only ever use natural yarns, carefully chosen to be soft and light against babies’ delicate
skin. Being natural, they tend to be warm in Winter but cool in Summer.
The baby alpaca and silk yarn that we use is spun from 3 strands in a combination of the best of two wonderful fibres, being a mix of
70% baby alpaca (for the softness) and 30% mulberry silk (for strength and glossy shine). The yarn fibres are untreated, which
means they are only washed and not exposed to any chemical treatment prior to the dyeing. This highlights the fibre’s natural
properties, while it also provides a better shape and texture quality.
It is great for baby garments, soft against the skin, cooling when hot and warm when cold.
